 Brand Origin:

Pall Mall cigarette brand is manufactured by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and international market by British American Tobacco at a number of locations.

Pall Mall cigarettes brand was launched during 1899 by the Butler & Butler Company, with object of catering Elite class of customers with "premium" cigarette variety. The name has its linking to Seventeenth Century famous game by the player attempting to move a wooden ball using a mallet down a lane and it’s ultimate crossing the elevated ring using only minimum number strokes. The Words are derivative of palla and malleus meaning ball and hammer. Pall Mall happens to be name of a very famous street in West End of London.

 

Shifting of Brand Ownership:

During 1907, Pall Mall was taken over by American Tobacco as a consequence of sale of Butler & Butler, the immediate action was Innovation of premium brand and setting in to motion Test Marketing of Innovations of cigarette design, of "king-size" subsequently shifted to standard size, also modifying the filling of tobacco process in cigarette, which resulted into better feeling in the throat.

Some time later during 1966 by Pall Mall was surpassed by Winston cigarettes, when Pall Mall realized it can not any more face competition of advertising campaign of with the simple slogan ‘Winston tastes good like a cigarette should’. Around 1940s, Pall Mall based its campaign on a grammatically wrong, slogan which brought down the image of Pall Mall, cigarette.

Ownership Changing Hands:

During 1994, Pall Mall Cigarettes and Lucky Strike were acquired by Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation because American Tobacco Company ceased to be associated with various tobacco brands. As a result Brown & Williamson got merger with R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company on July 30, 2004, and the successor company taking the name, R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. R. J. Reynolds is still making unfiltered and filtered brands of Pall Mall confining to U.S. market, the latter. British American Tobacco produces and sells Pall Mall brand outside the U.S.

Pall Mall Cigarette presently is responsible for its position in 'Growth Brand' sector of R.J. Reynolds total brands under promotion in the territory of British American Tobacco Pall Mall occupies among the top four brands on active promotion.

During 2007, R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company altered the packing color of Pall Mall Ultra Lights - both short and 100s – which was earlier light blue to orange to remove a confusion of Ultra Lights and the Lights, because both have blue color packets.

Jut now Pall Mall Lights filter on the packet the ring have been changed in stead of gold color to a navy blue with similar font printing of the word Pall Mall.

Unfiltered blend continues to be sold in soft packs with its original style, packing and design.
