A Historical Account Cigarettes and Cuban Cigars:

Zino Davidoff was the son of a Tobacco Merchant marketing Cigarettes. There was a political turmoil in Russia and his parents left Russia and settled in Geneva. After completing school Zino Davidoff, went to Latin America in an attempt to learn tobacco trade, stayed there for 2 years, worked in a number of plantations and came across Cuban Cigars. In the year 1930, he came back to Sweden and took over tobacco business from his parents. In the beginning a small Tobacco shop grew into a big business during and post World war. Switzerland being neutral escaped of great destruction witnessed by other European countries.

Zino very successfully marketing Cuban cigars and by his experimentation invented a desk top device for preserving original cigar’ humidity and temperature as they were manufactured in Havana. He proved to be a good writer providing information on cigar brands and cigar smoking.

Cuban Davidoff cigars:

In the year 1967 Cuba’s State monopoly company Cubatabaco, contacted Davidoff to manufacture personal branded Cigar for their store. Consequently a factory was established in Havana and same sized cigars were manufactured. In 1970 a mild cigar was introduced in the market. To mark 80th birthday of Zino 80 Anniversaries cigar was introduced. In the year1982 ChateuYquem was introduced, which was discontinued after the intervention of the original owners of the brand.

The Cuban Davidoff Line:

A number Cigar brands with its various sizes formed part of Davidoff line which included Ch?teaux Series, Mille Series and 80 Aniversario.

There were many disputes pertaining to quality and ownership rights, which led to end of Zino Davidoff and Cubatobacco. There was also incidence of burning of huge quantity of cigars burning publicly for the poor quality observed by Zino. This resulted into an agreement resulting into discontinuation of David Off and that No Cuban David to be sold in David off shops. Dominican manufactured David Off range of Cigars, which circulated in the market and continues to be available.

Davidoff Products Today:

Over the years Davidoff brand has acquired great goodwill, which resulted into Imperial Tobacco acquiring all world rights of Davidoff cigarettes trade marks from its owners Tchibo Holding AG. Imperial Tobacco Group and has been the licensed to own and deal with world over Davidoff cigarette trade mark since its acquisition of Reemtsma in 2002.

Oettinger Davidoff Group is owner of worldwide Davidoff trademark for tobacco products except cigarettes. Davidoff cigars are being manufactured in the Dominican Republic, under the agreement with cigar blender. Davidoff has also added an Aniversario series, a Millennium series, and a Special series of Figurados to its lineup, along with numerous limited edition and yearly special releases. Davidoff also produces a line of cigars known as "Zino" and a line of cigarillos.

Besides tobacco range, Davidoff also ventured into Perfumes, Pipes and Humidorsto making expansion to the range of products marketed by the group.
